It must have seemed like a good idea at the time.
But David Beckham has revealed he will never live down the matching leather outfits he and Victoria once wore on a night out.
The couple, who often used to co-ordinate their looks, sported the Versace ensembles to a party hosted by the Italian label in 1999.
Cringe factor: David and Victoria Beckham wore matching Versace outfits to a party hosted by the label in 1999
But although they proudly showed off the biker-inspired look at the time, David now admits in hindsight it was a bad move - and he and Victoria stil joke about the red carpet faux-pas.
He told H&M magazine: 'Me and Victoria wore matching black leather outfits once.
'They were Versace. But that's one when I look back and am like, "What were we thinking?"
...But the couple have been avid fans of leather over the years
'We laugh about that one. I remember that it's really good until you do it as a couple.'
David, 36, also admits previous outfits he and his wife have showcased over the years were over-the-top - but very much of the time.
He said: ' I look back on some stuff and think I can't believe I actually wore that.
'I have no regrets, though - I knew at the time it was good'

Defining moment: David famously wore a sarong in 1998 - launching his fashion icon status
David admits that some of his outfits were shocking, but very much of the time
No doubt Victoria, 37, who is cementing her status as a high-end fashion designer, would rather forget some of her past wardrobe choices.
The couple, who have been married for 13 years, captured the world's attention with a love of showy designer clothes and matching outfits.

But rather than being influenced by wife Victoria, it seems the footballer has always had an adventurous fashion sense.
He said: 'I was a pageboy and had a choice between wearing some boring old suit or a pair of knickerbockers with ballerina tights and slippers.
'So I went with the tights. It's not that I always wanted to be different, but I knew what I liked.'
