She took on a complete physical transformation to play Fantine in Les Misérables.
But even after shedding 25lbs for the role, and despite being one of Hollywood's most in-demand actresses, Anne Hathaway admits she still has hang-ups about her weight.
The Oscar nominee, who covers the January issue of Glamour magazine, says being hyper-conscious about her body is 'an ongoing source of shame'.

All personality: Anne Hathaway poses for the January issue of Glamour magazine
The 30-year-old star is exuberant in an editorial for the women's lifestyle glossy.
Styled in high-waisted briefs and a tank top, her pixie cut ruffled into a messy style, she poses without a hint of self-consciousness
Hide and seek: Anne struck a series of playful poses
But Anne admits she has trouble projecting the image of a confident star.
'I still feel the stress over "Am I thin enough? Am I too thin? Is my body the right shape?"' she admits of her insecurities.
'There's an obsessive quality to it that I thought I would've grown out of by now. It's an ongoing source of shame for me,' she explains.
Anne believes living in the spotlight is largely to blame.
Ray of sunshine: The 30-year-old star twirled in a canary yellow gown
'I just think about the ridicule you get if you have an off day,' she says.
'If people weren't watching, I'd be so much more eccentric. I know it makes me sound weak, but rather than make myself happy and wear the silly hat and say, "Oh, I don't care."
'I actually really don't feel like getting made fun of,' she says. 'So I put on something boring and navy and go out and try to disappear.'
The Dark Knight Rises actress, who wed actor Adam Shulman in September, also recalled how she was impacted by her 2008 split from ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri.
The Italian businessman, shortly after their break-up, pleaded guilty to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy, and was sentenced to four-and-a-half-years in prison.
'My trust had been betrayed quite massively,' she says.
Despite being blissfully in love, and having a career aspiring actresses dream of, Anne says she now realises there's 'no magic bullet' to make anyone happy - even if they seem to have it all.
And it's exactly that realisation that's been a source of contentment for the star since her honeymoon.
'I'm letting go of those expectations, and that's opening me up to moments of transcendent bliss,' she says.
Glamour’s January 2013 issue will be on newsstands nationwide on December 11.
