Fake Mr Nasty: According to the Daily Star Gary Barlow has had some help with his jokes and put downs on the X Factor


He may be quick with his tongue on the X Factor but it seems that someone else is telling Gary Barlow what to say.

The Take That singer has been accused of conning fans with his jokes and acerbic putdowns as it's claimed they aren't exactly all his own work.

Apparently Barlow, 40, has the help of Ben Winston - a colleague of comedian, James Corden who helped write the 'Smithy' Comic Relief sketches.


Viewers who think that Barlow is the new Mr Nasty can thank Winston for that as the Daily Star alleges that he helped Barlow shake his nice guy persona.

Hardcore X Factor fans may not be able to forgive Barlow for this after they originally thought that the judge's comments are on-the-spot remarks based on the performances.

Winston is well-known for being the creative partner of Gavin and Stacey star, Corden.

The pair have worked on various projects together including the Smithy sketches for Sport Relief, Sky1 comedy game show A League Of Their Own, and this year’s Take That Fake That sketch.

Thinking back to some of Barlow's more memorable comments, viewers will now perhaps find it obvious that he has had help somewhere along the way.

A couple of weeks ago when boy band Nu Vibe were voted off the show, Barlow told them: 'Nu Vibe? You sounded more like No Vibe to me.'

And when wannabe singer, George Gerasimou, auditioned for the X Factor this year and had a go at Barlow's fellow judge, Tulisa Contostavlos, he said to him: 'Things mature nicely like a red wine or a cheese. You’ve matured like a bad curry.'

These are just a couple of the standout comments that Barlow may have learnt off by heart.

It was a source on the ITV reality show that revealed Barlow's secret by saying: 'Since Gary was given the title head judge he wanted to make sure he matched Simon in the put- down stakes.

'He’s done a great job, and no wonder. He’s got his mate Ben, who’s very talented, to help out.'

'But viewers might not be laughing now they know he’s fed some of the lines.'

A spokesman for Barlow commented on the accusation last night: 'Ben’s been a friend of Gary’s for years and, if anything, has just been giving him moral support. No-one is telling him what to do.'
