It's Doctor Minogue! Kylie looked dapper in her gown and tam as she arrived at Anglia Ruskin University for the graduation ceremony

She's become one of highest-profile breast cancer campaigners since she was diagnosed with the disease six years ago.

And yesterday, Kylie Minogue was celebrated for her efforts when she accepted an honorary Doctor of Health Science award from Anglia Ruskin University in Essex.

The Australian singer, 43, donned a gown and tam as she picked up her honour at the Chelmsford establishment.

So proud: The singer holds her degree certificate after the ceremony

Underneath her brightly coloured orange and blue gown, she was wearing a sleek pair of black trousers, sleeveless top and platform heels.

Aside from her honour, it was an opportunity for Minogue to show off her newly-dyed brunette hairdo after years as a blonde.

Inspirational: Minogue speaks to the students on stage

Speaking on stage, she told the 220 graduate: 'I never went to university so my dad will be very proud when he sees the pictures.

How do I look? Minogue adjusts her tam ahead of the ceremony

'I am here partly for the work I do promoting breast cancer awareness.

When you are diagnosed yourself it becomes a lot more real and you appreciate at first hand the hard work that goes on to support patients through it.'

Clearly excited about her trip to the home county, Minogue has been tweeting feverishly about Essex all week.

She wrote earlier on Wednesday: 'TOWIE! Essex... on my way.

'Robes pressed and ready? Check! Still in the car after 2 and a half hours? Check! Loads of welcome invites from Essex? Check! (ta!).'

Meet and greet: Minogue stopped to sign autographs for fans as she arrived at the Chelmsford campus
