With her relaxed attitude and perennially tanned complexion, Jennifer Aniston may appear to be a Californian girl at heart.

But it seems that the 42-year-old actress is thinking of swapping her laid-back Los Angeles lifestyle to head back to the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.

The actress is on the verge of closing a real estate deal on a $5.9 million New York penthouse, according to E! Online.

The West Village abode is reportedly only one bedroom and one bathroom.

But Jennifer will have the spectacular city skyline to keep her engaged during her down time.

The 1,200-square foot penthouse is on the eighteenth floor, and has a 800-square foot terrace with all-angle views, which reach all the way to the Empire State Building.

Security within the building is fit for any A-lister intent on keeping their privacy, with the apartment block having it's very own doorman.

The residence has a new open plan kitchen, dining room, living room.

It features hardwood and poured concrete floors as well as four closets, huge casement windows and doors which open from every room to a beautifully planted roof terrace with the panoramic north, south, east and west views

The quiet home also has stunning high ceilings.

And if Jennifer wants to reminisce about her early acting days, she can always go for a stroll down the street.

The frontage of the famous Friends building is just down the road.

While the show was all shot on the location in Los Angeles, all exterior shots were filmed in Manhattan.

Jennifer put her sprawling Beverly Hills on the market for $42 million in February.

She spent more than two years renovating that 9,000 square foot property after purchasing it in 2006 for $13.5 million.

She decided to sell the property after deciding it was 'too much' for her.

In the past, Jennifer has made it no secret that she was looking to return to New York.

Appearing on Good Morning America back in February, she told anchor Robin Roberts that she was in the market for a Manhattan home.

'I've been looking and looking and looking,' she said.

'I grew up here. I miss it. There is nothing like being in the city that is just the city of Everyman. It's all walks of life. I love that.'

Real Estate agents have however remained coy on the sale, telling E! Online: 'Reports of her buying a NY apartment come out about three to four times a year.

'Eventually they will be right as she wants a NY place but we won't be issuing a statement when or if that happens.'

Jennifer was born in Sherman Oaks, California in 1969.

After living for a year in her Greece, her family relocated to New York City where Jennifer attended the famed Rudolf Steiner School in New York, and then graduated from Manhattan's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

She later worked in Off Broadway productions including For Dear Life and Dancing on Checker's Grave, whilst supporting herself with part-time jobs as a telemarketer, waitress, and bike messenger.

Eager to make it as an actress in Hollywood, in 1989, Aniston returned to Los Angeles and has since enjoyed a successful career there spanning over 20 years.

Currently Jennifer is directing a short film about the effects of cancer on a woman's relationship.

It will be one of five short movies based on the same theme, conceived as part of a series called Project Five.

Patricia Clarkson takes the lead role in the film, portraying the cancer victim.

Actress Demi Moore, 48, and singer Alicia Keys, 30, are also directing movies as part of the project.

Their films will be teamed up with Jennifer's to create one full-length feature to air later this year on US channel Lifetime.
