Flashing the flesh: American actress Hayden Panettiere shows off her athletic figure in a low-cut lace dress as she attends the Steiger Awards

They aren't many award shows you'd expect to see the likes of Hayden Panettiere and Cherie Blair in the same room.

But last night, a lavish party in Germany played host to both of them as they attended the Steiger Awards in Bochum.

Despite their widely different backgrounds and ages, it appears both women had the same idea when dressing for the evening - wearing a lacy number.

Mother-of-four Cherie, 56, wore a knee-length black lace dress, while Heroes actress Panettiere, 21, showed off her athletic figure in a low-cut mini dress.

While Tony Blair's wife was at the ceremony to accept an honour for her charity work, Panettiere was there to support her boyfriend.

Ukrainian heavywright boxer Wladimir Klitschko, 34, was recognised in the sport category for his achievement in boxing over the past year.

Panettiere and Klitschko have been dating since later 2009 with the actress spotted ringside at many of his boxing matches.

Der Steiger - which translates at The Miner - reflects the coal mining roots of the region of Germany, with winners receiving a piece of coal in a glass ball.

The award is given to those who have demonstrate the organisers' philosophy of straight-forwardness, honesty, fairness and helpfulness.

Unfortunately for Mrs Blair, her husband Tony wasn't present to see her accept her award.

Accepting her honour, she told the crowd: 'My grandfather was a miner.'

Also celebrated at the ceremony was The Who frontman Roger Daltrey and Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler.
