Punishment: Cheryl Cole received a pie to the face at the Pride of Britain Awards this week

She is one of the most controversial figures in Britain this week.
So thousands of angered X Factor voters may find a little pleasure in seeing Cheryl Cole getting taken down a notch or two.

The ITV series judge ended up covered in custard cream at this week's Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards in London after receiving a pie to the face

While plenty of enraged Treyc Cohen fans will get a little satisfaction out of seeing Cheryl red faced, it was all in good fun.

The 27-year-old had agreed to the stunt which brought the house down at the Grosvenor Hotel Awards gala and raised £15,000 for charity.

The tasty confection was slammed mercilessly into her face by honouree Cameron Small as she presented him with his award for Littlewoods Young Fundraiser of the Year.

The 12-year-old said he was 'shocked' that the glamorous star volunteered to be humiliated in front of hundreds of her industry peers and Prince Charles, but said she 'was a very good sport.'

Cheryl's boss Simon Cowell offered another £10,000 after witnessing the stunt.

Host Carol Vorderman asked for a volunteer to take the dessert in the face, and Cheryl, on stage to present the award, stepped up.

A delighted Cameron boasted afterward: 'I threw it hard and it hit her right in the face. Then she put some of it on me.'
