The extent of One Show host Jason Manford’s shame was revealed yesterday as he admitted a string of midnight indiscretions.
The married comedian confessed to spending hours in hotel rooms, exchanging obscene text and video messages with at least a dozen women.
The father-of-two resigned as presenter of The One Show on Thursday. He said he wanted to concentrate on his ‘family and tour commitments’.
Manford, 29, took over as host of The One Show from Adrian Chiles in August, working alongside Welsh co-host Alex Jones.
Countryfile presenter Matt Baker, who is currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing, will be stepping in to replace him next week, which will heighten speculation that he is in line to be the permanent replacement.
He will share the week’s presenting duties with Chris Evans.
Baker will front the show on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while Evans will stand in on Thursday, in addition to his regular Friday role.
Evans told the Daily Mail: ‘I spoke to Jason last night and he was very upset and extremely regretful about what has happened.
‘It was obviously a very difficult and painful decision for him to take. But bearing in mind what has happened, he has to do what is right for him and the BBC.’
Last night it emerged BBC executives were already considering who could replace Manford before these latest revelations.
It is thought he was regarded as a potential liability after embarrassing them twice previously by flirting with fans and complaining about bosses on Twitter.
Manford has said one of the reasons he is leaving the popular BBC One show is because he wants to 'concentrate on tour commitments'
The comedian was given a warning by bosses about his behaviour and asked to close down his Twitter account.
He has confessed he spent nights flirting with women on the video call service Skype and on Twitter in various hotel rooms during his nationwide stand-up tour.
Manford said: ‘We would start off flirty, then innuendo and then a bit saucy. They were the moments I thought, “I shouldn’t be saying that”. It was just nice to have some interaction I suppose. But the next morning I would wake up and think, “Oh my God”. I don’t drink or do drugs, so it’s not like I’ve those to blame – just my own stupidity.’
Manford’s most recent admission came after allegations surfaced that he had sent private sexual messages to fan Debra McNamee, 22, via Twitter, and she had sent him pictures of her in her underwear.

He is reported to have described in detail the sex acts he performed while looking at the images.
He has now had a heart-to-heart with his wife of two years, Catherine, and confessed to online and text flirtation with a number of women.
In a show of unity Manford and his actress wife, who have twin 16-month-old daughters and a third child due next month, appeared together on Thursday evening at the Mother and Baby Awards, which he was hosting, at London’s Hilton Hotel.
Manford, who lives with his wife in Stockport, Cheshire, was last night performing in Newcastle. The One Show was not broadcast as Children in Need was on the air, during which Manford made a brief appearance.
He had pre-recorded an introduction for an item featuring Evans.
