Going home: Sophie Habibis managed to keep it together as she discovered she was the next contestant to be voted off of the X Factor tonight

She was described as being as 'dull as dishwater' last night and it seems that the public agreed as Sophie Habibis became the latest contestant to be voted off the X Factor.

The 19-year-old former barmaid found herself up against Misha B, also 19, in the sing off but it was a no brainer as all the judges chose to send Sophie home.

Even their mentor Kelly Rowland - who has remained in the U.S. due to illness - was able to cast her vote.

Speaking over the telephone, the Destiny's Child singer certainly sounded as if she was suffering from a throat infection, but didn't let that cloud her vision.

'This is so hard because I know how bad you both want this,' she told the pair.

'But I know that one of you wants it more and I have to be completely honest. The act that I'm sending home is Sophie.'

Gutted: The 19-year-old vowed to continue 'working hard' despite no longer being in the competition

Kelly's vote confirmed Sophie's departure as both Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos chose the brunette to go as well, and when asked who he would have chosen, Gary Barlow simply answered: 'Sophie.'

Misha B and Sophie were left to battle it out on the stage - and they both put on a meaningful performance.

Singing Shelter, Sophie certainly gave it her all as she realised it could be her last performance of the competition.

Singing her heart out: Sophie gave it her best shot as she sang one last time but it just wasn't enough to get her votes

Strong contender: Misha B sang her own rendition of the Kings Of Leon hit Use Somebody

But following her was Misha B who sang the Kings Of Leon hit, Use Somebody, in her own unique way.

The feisty hopeful got quite emotional towards the end of her performance and began crying as she and Sophie stood alongside host Dermot O'Leary to hear the verdict.

Viewers were probably expecting N-Dubz star Tulisa to choose Misha B to go home following their public confrontation where the singer accused the hopeful of being a bully.

Awaiting the results: The pair looked nervous as they stood in front of the panel and listened to Kelly Rowland on the phone

Finding it tough: Tulisa Contostavlos couldn't make up her mind on who to send home

But regardless of this and her 'connection' with Sophie, the 23-year-old reluctantly announced her decision.

And when Kelly confirmed the news, Misha B immediately hugged her rival as Kelly praised her.

'I just want to tell Sophie that she is remarkable and she has such an incredible voice,' she said.

Shell shocked: Sophie looked surprisingly calm as fellow contestant Misha B hugged her

'She just has to develop as an artist and I cant wait to see what the future holds for her.'

The Londoner look shell-shocked but thanked everyone for the opportunity and vowed to carry on.

'I'm going to continue working hard and prove why I shouldn't have left this competition tonight,' she said.

Earlier on in the night the remaining contestants looked extremely nervous as they waited to hear the results of the public vote.

We're through: Girl band Little Mix looked ecstatic to be through to the next round following their spooky performance on last night's show

Kitty Brucknell was ecstatic as she realised she was the first act going through to next week's show, as were boy band The Risk who lifted their mentor, Tulisa, up in the air after hearing the announcement, and girl band, Little Mix.

Throughout the results Sophie looked worried as Kelly's contestants remained on stage with Frankie until the last minute.

Janet Devlin was the first one to breathe a sigh of relief as her name was read out, and when Frankie went through, it was Kelly's two girls who were left to endure the sing off.

Worried: Bad boy Frankie Cocozza thought his luck had run out when he was left standing on the stage with his mentor Gary Barlow right until the end

But before the tense atmosphere of the showdown, the hopefuls treated the audience to a performance of Cee Lo Green's hit, Bright Lights Bigger City.

Marcus began the energetic performance and slowly the rest of the contestants, mainly dressed in black, leather and PVC, joined in.

Also performing on the live show was former X Factor star, Cher Lloyd, who performed her new single, With Your Love.

She's back: Former X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd took to the stage to sing her new single With Your Love

Wearing an odd multi-coloured outfit that looked like it would fit in at the circus, the 18-year-old looked uneasy as she took to the stage with her female dancers.

Perhaps feeling nervous at being back on the X Factor stage for the first time since last year, her performance was shaky at the start.

Afterwards Cher told Dermot: 'I can't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep but I've worked hard and I'm hoping it's paid off.'

Following in her footsteps and seeming a lot more confident was U.S. star Nicole Scherzinger who wowed the audience in a much more low-key performance.

Singing from experience: Nicole Scherzinger looked stunning in a black lace dress as she sang on tonight's show

The 33-year-old wore an off-the shoulder black lace dress, as she sang her heart out following her recent break-up from Lewis Hamilton.

After her performance she told Dermot: 'I'm so happy to be back and I'm going to be back here in February for my tour so please come out and see me.'

Surprisingly the only judge on the panel who predicted Sophie's sad fate tonight was Irishman, Louis.

After being asked by Dermot who he thought was dream and a nightmare, he refused to answer with just one name and said: 'Kitty and Marcus, but Sophie and Frankie were a nightmare.'

Guest judge, Alexandra Burke agreed saying that the big-haired bad boy 'just didn't do it for me' but stated that Misha B was a dream on the stage.

X Factor favourite: The 33-year old appeared as guest judge on the show last year and also has a permanent place on the U.S. panel

Also predicting last night's shock decision was Gary who told Dermot that Kelly's absence had had an effect on the young girls.

'Kelly's acts had a tough week this week and it showed on that stage,' he said.

But outspoken judge Tulisa revealed that no one was a nightmare for her on last night's show although she admitted that she would like to see Craig Colton do 'something different'.

The Playing With Fire singer was obviously still in the Halloween spirit on tonight's show wearing an extremely long black and white dress that looked out of place compared to her usual style.

Whereas X Factor winner, Alexandra, showed off her legs in a black and green figure-hugging frock.

I'm OK, honestly: Sophie says goodbye to the X Factor team as she leaves the studios

Halloween... done the Essex way: Lauren Pope arrived to film special TOWIE Halloween scenes dressed as a sexy sailor, covered in fake blood

They dress up at every possible opportunity so it comes as no surprise that the TOWIE girls went all out while filming a Halloween special today.

The Only Way Is Essex beauties went for the tightest, shortest, most revealing outfits they could possibly find, and covered themselves in fake blood for good measure, as they arrived to shoot their spooky scenes.

Lauren Pope decided to go for a sexy sailor look, in a tiny white and blue pleated minidress, and accessorised her outfit with white knee-high socks, a sailor's hat, leopard-print heels and lashings of very realistic looking blood.

The skimpier the better: Maria Fowler donned a black tutu to be the Black Swan for the evening

She arrived for the filming alongside housemate Lauren Goodger, who kept things relatively simple in a military-style brown dress, black knee-high boots and matching black gloves.

And it was nice to see the two Laurens using their creativity for their Halloween looks, after their attended the Bloodlust Ball this weekend wearing sparkly minidresses that wouldn't look out of place on a usual Saturday night in Essex.

Meanwhile, as she arrived to film the TOWIE Halloween party, Maria Fowler opted to accentuate her curves in a black tutu to go as the Black Swan from Natalie Portman's movie thriller.

Dressed to impress: Chloe Sims wore a black PVC Queen of Hearts outfit for the occasion

Shiny and black: Frankie Essex kept her head down as she ran across the garden to film scenes for the special

But it was Chloe Sims who had the most impressive Halloween outfit, choosing to wear a black Queen of Hearts type outfit.

The 21-year-old star donned the black PVC dress, which featured a black and silver chequered corset, and teamed the scary outfit with a matching headpiece, thigh-high boots and fake blood.

Even the TOWIE crew who weren't seen filming Halloween scenes this afternoon dressed up for good measure.

What are you meant to be? Lauren Goodger wore a beige military-style dress with black socks and boots

Joey Essex tweeted fans that he was struggling to find a suitable outfit for trick or treating, before eventually settling for a green alien-type suit.

He wrote on his Twitter page: 'Halloween woowwwwwww... Can't wait to trick or treat in my Alian (sic) outfit! Haha.'

TOWIE newcomer Peri Sinclair was also seen getting into the spooky spirit earlier this week as she shopped for a sexy outfit for the big day.

-Kelly flew to the US following bust up with Tulisa
-The singer then claimed that she was 'too ill' to fly back and appear on The X Factor this weekend
-Kelly was replaced by former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke on last night's live show
-Simon Cowell has given Kelly 48 hours to return to the UK
-Meanwhile ratings continue to plummet as Strictly Come Dancing drew more viewers than the X Factor for the first time since 2007

Excited: Alexandra Burke makes her grand entrance on the X Factor tonight and said she couldn't wait for the evening to begin

Kelly Rowland has 48 hours to return to the UK as Simon has given her an ultimatum as to whether she wants to keep her place on the judging panel.

The singer has insisted that wants to retain her position on the show, but needs to consult her doctor to see if she is well enough to fly, as she has been grounded in the US due to a severe throat infection.

Kelly has said that rows with fellow judge Tulisa Contostavlos are making her life 'a living hell.'

Meanwhile the ratings freefall continued as the X Factor pulled 9.9 million viewers to Strictly Come Dancing's 10.2.

Alexandra Burke stepped in last night to cover for Kelly following a 24 hour crisis as to who would take her place for the live show.

A show insider told The People last night: 'Kelly has been told it’s time to make her mind up. Everyone is supportive of the fact she is ill but other bosses are annoyed at the situation.'

'She doesn’t want to quit. She is adamant that she isn’t worried about the row she had with Tulisa and wants to return but she has to give the producers her word – and fast.'

Ultimatum: Simon Cowell has given Kelly 48 hours to return to the UK if she wants to keep her place om the X Factor judging panel

If Kelly does return her presence will make for a tense situation on set however, as the Destiny's Child star has confided in friends that she feels she will have to change her place on the judging panel to avoid sitting next to Tulisa.

'Tulisa and I have no relationship. The show has become a living hell. I don’t know how long I can tolerate this for,' Kelly admitted, according to a friend speaking to The Mirror.

'None of Tulisa’s acts go anywhere near Kelly on set,' the friend continued.

Gone for good? Kelly Rowland touched down in LA on Monday for what she claimed was a long-planned business trip, but has been unable to return due to a throat infection

'Kelly was told to ‘stay out of it’ by Tulisa when she offered advice on her acts two weeks ago and it’s been frosty between them ever since. Kelly’s just not used to this infighting and bitching.'

'She’s feeling extremely uncomfortable with Tulisa and doesn’t feel like she can approach her to make amends – it’s like Dannii Minogue and Sharon Osbourne all over again,' added the friend.

Kelly has reportedly even had talks with Simon Cowell over how the Tulisa situation can possibly be resolved.

'Simon has been calling Kelly and trying to calm her down but she hates the way Tulisa is portraying her in the press and the way she’s creating an awful atmosphere backstage,' The Mirror's source said.

'The past two weeks have been hellish. Simon has had to work hard to stop her jacking it all in.'

'But Kelly is no pushover, and can easily look after herself.'

When it became clear that Kelly was not going to return for last night's show X Factor bosses went into crisis mode to find a replacement within 24 hours.

Speculation was rife that X Factor US judge Nicole Scherzinger, 33, would be drafted in.
According to The People however Simon Cowell refused to deploy Nicole for the task, fearing it would 'downgrade' her star status having been such a hit on the US version of the show.

Former judge Cheryl Cole was reportedly floated as an option briedly, but negotiations broke down early in proceedings.

Alexandra Burke instead returned to the X Factor as a judge - and she certainly made sure her opinion was heard.

Sitting amongst Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos, the singer was there to fill the shoes of an unwell Kelly Rowland.

'I’m really looking forward to it,' she said as she arrived on the show and took her seat.

'I'm here to back the girls, here for Kelly’s girls and ain't taking any nonsense from this one over here,' she added, pointing to the Irishman

Divide: Even Gary Barlow has admitted that it has become a case on he and Kelly versus Louis and Tulisa on the judging panel

No doubt Kelly would have been proud of the young star fighting her corner, but would also be glad to know that her fellow judges were thinking of her.

'She's going to be gutted about the show, said Gary. 'Plus she missed your dance routine Dermot.'

Her female rival, Tulisa, also referenced the U.S. singer by saying: 'We all want to send our love to Kelly, we hope she gets well and is back for next week live and kicking.'

Flustered at being asked to deliver the message however, she stumbled over her words and apologised 'Sorry Dermot, I got lost there for a second.'

Alexandra was chosen to step in within the last 24 hours after Kelly flew to Los Angeles following a bust up with Tulisa Contostavlos.

Temporary replacement: Alexandra joined the three judges on last night's show and certainly made sure her opinion was heard

ITV told the Daily Mail: 'It is true that Alexandra is replacing Kelly tonight, but we have no further information at present.

A statement read: 'Kelly is devastated she won't be here for this weekend's show.
She is extremely ill with a viral throat infection and her doctors aren't permitting her to fly.

'Kelly will be returning to the show as soon as she has recovered. The girls have been in touch to wish her a speedy recovery and they can't wait for her to get back. More news as we have it.'

Making her feelings known: Alexandra wasn't afraid to take on Louis Walsh

Kelly also told The Sun that she is suffering from an 'extremely rare' illness, and has been in tears about her situation all week.

She explained to the paper: 'I'm so sick - I have no idea what is wrong with me, but I have the worst sore throat.

'I've been in tears all week. It got so bad that I stopped eating and drinking and got so dehydrated the doctor put me on a drip.

'Even now I can't swallow anything - not even my own saliva. The doctors don't even really know what's wrong, either. They say whatever I have is extremely rare.'

'No nonsense': The Bad Boys singer had a friendly dig at Louis Walsh and offended him during her comments on Kitty Brucknell

A spokesman for Miss Rowland said: 'She’s really sick. Her doctor is not permitting her to fly. She won’t be here for tonight’s show. She has a viral throat infection. She is really, really sick.

'She has not gone AWOL. She will be back. She’s been in contact with the girls.

She’s been on intravenous drips. Her doctor will not permit her to fly. She tried to get on a flight today but her doctor wasn’t letting her.'

An X Factor insider has said: 'Kelly is turning into a real diva, she’s been on the phone to all the producers all week moaning about Tulisa’s antics.'

The N-Dubz singer, 23, had accused one of Miss Rowland’s hopefuls, Misha Bryan, of being mean to her own wannabes.

Tension: Kelly Rowland had a falling out with fellow judge Tulisa Contostavlos on last week's show before jetting off to Los Angeles

Fellow judge Louis Walsh then waded into the row by calling Misha, 19, a 'bully' - and was then forced to apologise to the viewers.

Miss Bryan, 19, from Manchester, had received positive comments from the judges for her performance of Prince's 'Purple Rain' on Saturday’s rock-themed show, but Walsh sparked a war of words when said he feared she was too ‘over-confident’.

He told her: 'You’re very confident, you’re a very confident performer. I hope you’re not too over-confident.'

Miss Contostavlos, who is mentoring the groups, then inflamed the situation, saying: 'There is no doubt about it, when it comes to talent you are way up there.

Cross words: Miss Rowland is still not speaking to her fellow judge Miss Contostavlos after the pair fell out live on air last weekend

'Most people they come into the competition and they need to be built up and progress, but you came as a whole package and you are definitely the star of the show.

'But I do have one negative this week. I think you are very competitive and I’ve seen a different side of you backstage and you don’t realise that you do it, but in some ways you being so feisty can come across as quite mean to certain contestants and I’ve been told by a few this week there’s been a few mean comments towards them.

'I’m not putting you down but take that feistiness and energy when you get on the stage and leave them all behind. Put aside the attitude.'

That's my girl: Kelly defended Misha B via her Twitter page after the row

Miss Rowland insisted: 'We leave things backstage, backstage, but you brought it on stage and you brought it clean and clear and on fire tonight. I am so very proud of you, continue to work hard and you’re supposed to be confident when you go on stage.'

She then turned to Walsh and said: 'I think some of your categories should get some more confidence.'

Walsh, who is looking after the Over 25s category, then interjected: 'One of my contestants has complained about Misha bullying her backstage.'

Afterwards, Miss Contostavlos remained defiant, saying: 'I feel like if you are going to portray a certain person on stage, it should be the same person that’s backstage.

Absent: Former Destiny's Child star Kelly has been away all week, missing mentoring sessions with members of her group

'I feel like when it comes to energy, it’s a different character but when it comes to who you are, if she’s being someone else backstage and said a bitchy comment to one of my acts then I’m going to express it.'

But Miss Rowland hit back: 'I think that deserves to stay backstage, I think there is a time and a place for everything and we were here tonight to judge them for what they did onstage and not for what is going on backstage.'

Miss Rowland added to The Sun that while she hasn't yet forgiven Tulisa for her comments, they are not what's keeping her away from the show.

She said: 'I still disagree with Tulisa, but in the heat of the moment the passion gets to us and we are all extremely passionate about what we do as mentors.

'Misha will continue to shine and she will learn from this experience and use it to master herself as an artist as we all learn to do.'

Speculation: Nicole Scherzinger, who sits on the X Factor USA panel, was rumoured to be a possible replacement for Kelly

A spokesman for Rowland said she is making 'great progress' and is expected to be back in the UK next week.

She said: 'Kelly is expected to be on a plane back to the UK to take up her place back on the X Factor judging panel next week.

'Rumours of her quitting are completely untrue. Her doctor has said that she needs a few days so we're confident that she will be flying back early next week following her latest check-up.

'She remains in contact with her girls and is fully supporting them this weekend.'

Out of the sun: Victoria Beckham hept baby Harper in the shade while they watched the boys play football in Los Angeles yesterday

They're rarely seen apart nowadays, and yesterday Victoria Beckham and baby Harper enjoyed some girly time in the park.

The pair kept out of the California sun while they watched the boys brush up on their football skills.

The Beckhams have been indulging in a great deal of quality time recently, as the possibility of David moving to play for Paris Saint-Germain might mean that the family are soon divided by the Atlantic.

37-year old Victoria looked casual in flared jeans and a navy T-shirt as she watched tenderly over her daughter.

Three-month-old Harper, who seems to be growing bigger every day, wore a loose pale grey dress, accessorised with a cute bow in her short brown hair.

No running about for us: The pair sat down in the shade, a perky Harper sitting up on Victoria's lap

Bouncy baby: Victoria holds a fidgety Harper on her lap as she spots something on the ground

The pair rested their legs in the shade, a perky Harper sitting up on Victoria's lap.

Victoria and David both take a very hands-on approach to looking after all their children, sharing their parental duties as evenly as possible.

Cuddles: Victoria just can't get enough of her baby girl as she snuggled her close

What's Brooklyn doing? Victoria shaded her eyes from the sun as she watched her eldest practice

The football superstar, 37, happily took charge of caring for his little girl while his boys took part in a karate class in Los Angeles this week, overseen by their mother.

According to witnesses her showered little Harper with kisses throughout the whole time he waited for the rest of his family to leave the karate class.

Meanwhile, in the class the boys got to it practicing their self-defence moves under the watchful eye of mother Victoria.

Sharing the parental duties: David took a turn watching Harper while Victoria supervised Romeo and Cruz during their karate class earlier this week

Family time is increasingly precious, as last week a close friend revealed Paris Saint-Germain, one of the richest football teams in the world, had approached him with a deal that ‘we just cannot ignore’.

If the deal goes through, Beckham would have to commute between Paris and Los Angeles, as his wife Victoria would remain in California.

The couple’s sons, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, ten, and Cruz, six, are settled in LA. Their daughter Harper was born there three months ago.

Guy time: While Victoria has been ensuring that Harper's fashion sense develops as befitting a Beckham girl, Brooklyn appeared to be imitating his father's hairstyle this week in Los Angeles

The source said: ‘It was looking quite straightforward, David would sign a one-year deal with LA Galaxy and make his official farewell at the London 2012 Olympics.

But PSG have come in with this amazing offer and it’s really changed things. And while David does not love the prospect of leaving Victoria and the children in Los Angeles, this is a huge, huge deal.

‘Let’s face it, with Victoria’s passion for fashion I don’t think she would mind travelling to Paris too much.

‘There’s also the belief playing back in Europe would be a good way to end David’s career.
