Down to earth: Cheryl Cole poses with fan James McFarlane in a shopping centre in Las Vegas

We're used to seeing diminutive Cheryl Cole giving herself a height boost with a pair of vertiginous heels.

But when it comes to her down-time, it appears the former X Factor judge prefers to stay a bit closer to earth.

In a candid Twitter photo of the singer with a fan taken in Las Vegas this week, Cheryl gave a nod to Eighties fashion in a brightly coloured skirt and high-top trainers.

Holidaymaker James McFarlane posted a photo of himself with the star after bumping into her shopping on the Las Vegas strip.

He wrote: 'Met @CherylCole on the Las Vegas strip today. Lovely lady, thanks for the pic u looked georgeous!!! (sic).'

Soon after he was besieged with questions from Cheryl fans about what it was like meeting her.

He replied: 'She was really nice an unexpected treat!!

'She was with her mum and one other person dont know who... she is lovely very quiet and sweet.'

Meanwhile, Cheryl is yet to give away any more information on her intriguing new tattoo.

The Girls Aloud star debuted the etching in her new music video for new single Call My Name last week.

But she gave more than a glimpse of the track when she unveiled a large new inking on her bottom.

The singer, 28, showed off her figure as she sauntered around in a pair of tiny hot pants and high heels during the promo.

And during one shot, Cheryl shows of her derriere with an expansive new jagged design running down the back of her thigh.

Cheryl has previously shown off a tattoo on her left bottom cheek and the new body art appears to stem from her old design.

She gave a small glimpse of the jagged design when she wore a pair of tiny shorts to LAX airport last month head of filming the new video in Los Angeles.

And now fans have been treated to a better view after she wriggled around in a tunnel for the track.

She has previously unveiled tattoos including a tribal design on her hand, a barbed wire design around her right thigh, as well as the words Mrs C on the back of her neck.

And she showed off a large inking on the base of her back at the National TV Awards last year.

She said of the procedure at the time: 'The sitting itself was pretty painful but I was determined to get it done in one hit. I didn’t cry once.'
