In a rush: Dot Branning (June Brown) is hurrying down the stairs for work when she loses her footing...

Over the past few weeks, EastEnders viewers have seen Dot Branning struggling to balance her work at the launderette and caring for her husband.

But as the fiercely independent 75-year-old continues to isolate herself and Jim from their family and friends, she is left with no-one to help her in her time of need.

In dramatic scenes coming up next week, Dot (June Brown) is left unconscious on the floor after falling down the stairs of her home in Albert Square.

With husband Jim (John Bardon) too ill to reach her from the front room, soap fans will be left wondering just who comes to her aid.

Dot is rushing to her shift in the launderette when she loses her footing and falls down stairs.

As she lies on the floor out cold, a distressed Jim calls out to her, but is unable to physically reach her or a phone.

While Dot is unconscious, her stepdaughter Carol Jackson (Lindsay Coulson) and Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) are outside the launderette wondering where she is.

Out cold: ...Dot ends up unconscious at the bottom of the stairs with her ailing husband Jim unable to reach her

Desperate to get their washing done, they start nagging Dot's co-worker Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) to open the launderette - until she explains she doesn't have the keys.

The trio soon decide to investigate at Dot's house and are dismayed to find the elderly Walford resident slumped in the hallway.

With the help of Dr Yusef Khan (Ace Bhatti), they manage to gain entry to the house and rouse the injured Dot.

Fortunately Dot is only left with a broken arm and as Dr Khan takes her to hospital, Carol tends to her father Jim.

The upcoming storyline appears in the Thursday March 31 episode of EastEnders on BBC1 at 7:30pm.
