Opportunistic: Dancing On Ice and Loose Women star Denise Welch and a young friend decided to try their luck on the door at the Universal Brits afterparty at the Savoy, despite not being on the guest list

It was the hottest ticket in town - the Universal Records Brit Awards aftershow bash at London's newly-refurbished Savoy Hotel, where Cheryl Cole rubbed sequin shoulders with winners Rihanna,Take That and Tinie Tempah in five-star glamour on the banks of the Thames.

So it was hardly surprising that lesser celebrities thought it was worth trying their luck and gatecrashing the star-studded bash at the legendary hotel.

Bouncers for the do on the Strand certainly had their work cut out - and managed to stop Dancing On Ice and Loose Women star Denise Welch entering the fray.

Let me in! Alex Reid - who was still wearing his wedding ring - looked utterly desperate to get into the glitzy bash as he stood in line but his efforts were to no avail

What do you mean, no? Alex and Denise both tried ever trick in the book to see if there was any way into the party - but failed

Perhaps Denise's party-loving reputation probably proceeded her, and organisers were worried she might drink the free bar dry.

Still, she'd already been partying at private members' club Soho House before she got there, so she'd already enjoyed quite a knees-up for a Tuesday night.

Begging: But Alex's pleading was all in vain and he was turned away at the door by the bouncers

Then Alex Reid thought he'd try his hand at blagging part the security guards, perhaps attempting to sweet-talk into a conversation about shared kickboxing skills.

However, despite a pleading phonecall to someone he hoped could get him an 'in', he was forced to turn tail and slink off into the night when he was told resolutely that his name was not down and he wasn't coming in.

Most definitely on the list: Cheryl Cole was one of the many stars who were official guests at Universal Record's glitzy do at London's Savoy Hotel

Walk right in: Katherine Jenkins, Paloma Faith and Jessie J were all welcome at the star-studded bash

Over-refreshed? Pixie Lott and an apparently pickled friend pictured leaving the bash

Still, at least he was saved one embarrassment on the night. Estranged wife Katie Price had been on the guest list for the main even at London's O2 Arena, but decided to stay at home so as not to bump into Alex or her ex-husband Peter Andre, who was covering the event for ITV2.

Bona fide guests at last night's glittering Universal aftershow party meanwhile also included Eliza Doolittle, Matt and Emma Willis, Alan Carr, Will Young, Paloma Faith and Katherine Jenkins.

Other Brits aftershow parties around town included one at London's Movida nightclub, where Cee Lo Green pitched up - but not many other people. Not so Crazy.

Party on: Tinie Tempah and friend, plus Take That's Robbie Williams, with wife Ayda Field, and Mark Owen, with wife Emma, were also at the do to celebrate their wins

Out on his own: There weren't any other stars at the Movida Brit aftershow party, so Best International Solo Male winner Cee Lo Green celebrated with a security guard
